Will was a tiger for Halloween, which is the same outfit Lauren wore her first Halloween. Lauren was a green fish. I did not come up with this idea, I just made the mistake of asking Lauren several months ago the very open-ended question of what she wanted to be for Halloween this year. She thought for a minute and then said, "Mmm, a fish!". Playing along, I said, "Oh really? What color of fish do you think you'd like to be?" and she said, "GREEN!". I didn't think much about it - kids change their minds about this kind of thing all the time, right? Several weeks later when it was time to actually think about getting a costume I asked her again what she would like to be for Halloween and she gave me a look that suggested that I was a little bit crazy for not remembering that we had already discussed this and said very definitively, "Green fish". So I set out to find a green fish costume. First I thought I could just make one, but after purchasing some green felt and several bottles of puff paint I felt like Lauren would just look like a little girl with green felt plastered all over her rather than a fish. I ended up finding her costume on e-bay!!!!! It was a very happy moment. I couldn't believe that a "green fish" costume actually existed (and it was a lot cuter than I envisioned possible). So, problem solved - whew!
Anyway, their first opportunity to wear their costumes was "Boo at the Zoo" last Saturday and they had a great time. Will pretty much just slept, but Lauren enjoyed "swimming" around and looking at all the animals. Grandpa and Grandma were visiting, too, so that made it even more fun. The pumpkin party at our church was Wednesday night and that was fun, too. Lauren was pretty good at the games this year and loved seeing all the other kids in their costumes. The highlight of her evening was getting a rainbow painted on her face. Will was again fairly unimpressed and was probably wondering what in the world was going on. Thursday night was Davenport trick-or-treating so the costumes went back on (this time including Jessie in her dinosaur costume) and we went up and down our street. The neighbors loved seeing the kids in costume and Lauren had fun saying "trick-or-treat" and carrying her bag around. Jessie even got a dog treat at one of our neighbors houses :). Lauren had a few pieces of candy that night and seems to have forgotten about it so that's good. We all had a fun Halloween!
