Shoo, fly...

Lauren has developed a recent fear of bugs and the other day while we were eating lunch a fly was buzzing around by the table. Lauren was afraid and so I tried to make it funny (even though I definitely don't prefer flies at the lunch table, either) and I sang "Shoo fly" for her and we clapped along and all was well again. Of course the fly didn't go away, and about 20 minutes later it was buzzing around her again. She tried to swat it with her hands, and when that didn't work she said (loudly), "Shoo fly, don't bother ME!". It was so cute. When it didn't leave she growled at it like a bear (her latest fallback response to pretty much anything). I don't think she really understood why I was laughing so hard.
